Project Profile

Flint Hills Resources Hydrogen Plant
Pine Bend, MN

Structural and Module Erection Activities Installation of Pre-Fab Modules

JH Kelly was hired to construct a new hydrogen plant as part of a $100 million capital project that increased its crude oil processing capacity by 50,000 barrels a day. The Pine Bend refinery is among the largest processors of heavy crude in the United States. Crude oil and raw materials arrive at the complex via pipeline and are processed into petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel, propane and butane.

This project will also allow Flint Hills Resources to utilize the increasing supply of Canadian crude oil. Western Canadian crude oil production is expected to expand by more than 1 million barrels of oil per day over the next five to seven years.

JH Kelly erected the steel, completed the heavy lifting/rigging, set all process equipment and erected the hydrogen furnace including refractory.

Technip designed, managed construction and started up the new plant.
