Project Description

JH Kelly was selected as the general contractor and construction manager for the 7.0 MMSCFD Hydrogen Generating Plant built adjacent to the Shell Puget Sound Refinery. This plant provides hydrogen to Shell for use in their refining operations. JH Kelly assisted in permitting and worked in conjunction with Linde and CH2M Hill on civil and electrical design and layout including arranging for geotechnical and wetlands surveys as part of the design phase of the project. JH Kelly also provided liaison services for Linde to the local building department.

The project consisted of used Linde equipment from Quebec, Canada and new equipment purchased by Linde including 11 skids, two reformers, one fin fan, one large vessel, one new PSA absorber package with five absorber towers, two new process compressors, one new instrument air compressor, one new cooling tower, one new RO skid, one new RO storage tank and assorted used pipe spools and fabrication and installation of new pipe spools.

JH Kelly self-performed the underground piping and electrical, concrete, structural steel, equipment setting and alignment, process ductwork, process piping, electrical and instrumentation.

Engineering was a combination of the original plant design, Hydro-Chem and CH2M Hill. Engineering coordination was provided by Linde.
