Virtual Design & Construction
We began utilizing BIM (Building Information Modeling) on select projects in the 1990s. We quickly realized that integrated 3D modeling and data management provided a platform to enhance collaboration, reduce errors, improve efficiency, and streamline project delivery. Now, our team of over 45 dedicated detailers touches every mechanical, electrical, and plumbing construction project that we perform.
Primarily working in Revit, we complete hundreds of projects every year which utilize our BIM capability. Here are a few of the ways that we support your project with our best-in-class BIM capability:
Coordination: We support design and preconstruction teams by completing constructability review and modeling MEP-dense spaces to avoid clashes and space conflicts later in design and construction.
Sequencing: We help inform project scheduling by developing a sequence of work that avoids trade stacking and mitigates the need to remove work-in-place due to access issues.
Off-Site Manufacturing: We use the model to split your project into distinct work packages - logical bite-size chunks of work - allowing our fabrication and module shops to fabricate, assemble, package, and transport work to the site just in time for installation.
Shop & Field Integration of BIM: The updated construction model is available to our craft in our fabrication shops and in the field on mobile devices or kiosks providing them a highly detailed paperless resource as they fabricate, assemble, and install their work.
Digital Layout: We use model data to facilitate the accurate layout of sleeves, anchors, and penetrations, which are tied to the model through the use of Trimble points.
Project Documentation: JH Kelly uses model data, in conjunction with our workflow and fabrication management software, Stratus, to append critical information directly to model elements. This allows us to use the model to support logistics, project documentation, quality control, commissioning, and post-construction facilities management.
