"I wanted to thank you all for the flawless execution of the kicker install. The team just absolutely nailed it, and I continue to be very impressed with this team. Thank you all for the great work and keep rocking it! This outage had the biggest potential to cause massive disruption to the paper machines and converting and there was no impact to either. When we go back to the vision and look at “ I will work to minimize production interruptions” I would say we hit all three bullet points: Maximize planned work to avoid downtime, No missed customer commitments, Incorporate operations and construction into the plan, and this was very prevalent by the level of communication and engagement from all parties. Thank again and keep up the good work.”
Project Description
JH Kelly’s scope for Project Northstar includes the complete installation of four new PCMC converting lines within Georgia-Pacific’s active Halsey, Oregon mill. Each line will include an unwinder, embosser, rewinder, accumulator, log saw, wrapper, conveyor systems, bundler, and Smart Box palletizer with stretch wrapper. Work will take place within a 173,000 sf facility housing nine existing lines, all of which must remain fully operational during construction. Upon commissioning, the new lines will replace six existing lines, which JH Kelly will also demolish as part of the scope. In addition, JH Kelly will install Smart Box palletizers and stretch wrappers on three existing lines that will remain in service. JH Kelly is also responsible for all electrical and controls work associated with the new Laser Guided Vehicle (LGV) pallet handlers being integrated into the facility. The project will be self-performed almost entirely by JH Kelly’s own craft workforce, including carpenters, cement masons, boilermakers, electricians, ironworkers, laborers, pipefitters, millwrights, and sheet metal workers.
