HCA Plant Expansion
Kalama, WA

Installation of Concrete Foundations, Structural Racks and Equipment Settings Installation of Concrete Foundations, Structural Racks and Equipment Settings

Noveon awarded JH Kelly the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for the HCA Production Project. This project provided Kelly an opportunity to blend their construction talent with UniField Engineering (UEI) of Vancouver, WA to design and build the facility in close concert with the customer.

Beginning in mid December, the project team designed and constructed a new contained tank farm and process area, with pipe bridges that tie back into the existing plant. There are nine large tanks, a reactor, and a 60ft distillation column to set, along with an equipment skid with five heat exchangers. Connecting the vessels and equipment is 10,000 lineal feet of pipe and wire which allow for Noveon to produce hexyl cinnamic aldehyde (HCA) from C8 alcohol.

JH Kelly's fabrication shop in Longview supported this project's aggressive schedule by minimizing field manhours and allowing for concurrent schedule progress in two locations.

Kelly's electrical engineers and piping design detailers worked closely with UniField Engineering's civil, structural, process, mechanical and instrumentation & controls engineers and the customer to produce the construction documents from which JH Kelly's unified civil, structural, mechanical and electrical construction team built the new facility.

Special points of interest:
  • Multi-discipline
  • EPC Project
  • Aggresive schedule

JH Kelly is a 4th generation family-owned construction company serving the greater Pacific Northwest. We function as a self-performing industrial general contractor at process facilities. Our reputation for completing difficult process piping jobs is well known throughout the region and our success has led us to offer 3rd party services as a piping fabricator or module fabricator. Our integrated project approach includes self-performing concrete placement, functioning as a steel erector and providing equipment setting, millwrighting, and electrical services. For commercial HVAC projects, we can be found under tower cranes providing trade services as a plumbing contractor or mechanical contractor on a subcontracted basis.
