JH Kelly was awarded the contract to install Norpac's new Gates Roll Size Press on the #2 paper Machine based on its project team, project knowledge and past paper machine experience. This was a fast track project with JH Kelly providing constructability input as construction began and engineering was completed. The project included the demolition of existing machine equipment, installation of the Beloit-supplied gates roll coater, installation of CP dilution headbox, new drives, additional hood modification, insstallation of a new tile pulper and chute, all associated piping and instrumentation (including tanks and pumps), and miscellaneous concrete foundations. The project involved eight maintenance shutdowns in order to reduce main outage, sheet re-routing and necessary tie-ins, but the coater and the majority of the rolls, steel and piping were installed during a 28-day shutdown. The process allowed Norpac to complete the machine upgrade while maximizing production. Over the course of twelve months, JH Kelly worked approximately 200,000 manhours on this project.
