#6 Tissue Machine Phases I & II
Wauna, OR

Structural Steel Erection Structural Concrete Support Systems

JH Kelly performed both the civil and structural scopes for Georgia Pacific's new TAD Tissue Machine. The two phases were highly schedule-driven and had tight budgets.

Civil work began early in 2003 and consisted of approximately 350,000 sf of flat work with a total of 14,000 cubic yards of concrete.

The structural steel project team erected the steel for the two new buildings that house the #6 Tissue Machine and provide storage for the tissue rolls produced. The structural steel work began in February 2003 and was complete by May 2003.

The #6 Tissue Machine is a Metso “Through Air Dryer” or TAD Machine that utilizes the newest technology in tissue making. It is capable of producing 16 foot diameter rolls and is only the second machine of this type to be installed in the Northwest.

Special points of interest:
  • $3.7 million - civil package-Ph. I
  • $2.6 million - structural steel-Ph. II
  • 350,000 sf of flat work
  • 14,000 cy concrete
