LONGVIEW, WA – JH Kelly was awarded a construction contract to install the foundations for Georgia-Pacific’s new #6 Tissue Machine on Wednesday, December 4th. The #6 Tissue Machine is a Metso “Through Air Dryer” or TAD Machine that utilizes the newest technology in tissue making and provides a competitive advantage to Georgia-Pacific. It is capable of producing 16 foot diameter rolls and is only the second machine of this type to be installed in the Northwest. Facing tough competition from both signatory and non-signatory contractors, most of the building trades worked with us to give Kelly a competitive advantage. Their help, along with the hard work of the project team involved, made this award a reality. The project team is in the initial stages of site mobilization and will average 65 people on-site (with peak manpower of 100) and log nearly 37,000 craft hours. There is approximately 350,000 square feet of flat work with a total of 14,000 cubic yards of concrete. The crews will have to place an average of 120 cubic yards of concrete per day with the challenges of difficult weather and tight schedules. Scheduled completion is April 2003. This package is the first contract of a multi-phase Tissue Machine Installation. We are currently working on the remaining electrical, mechanical, and piping packages for this project. Their scheduled awards will be in early 2003. |
