This design assist project was for the construction of a new 12-story complex featuring 600,000 sf of classrooms, lecture halls, and laboratories for research and teaching. The facility featured medical simulation laboratories to facilitate technology-based team learning. It was designed around a concept of “health science on display” and successfully incorporated spaces for both health sciences education and research within one interdisciplinary facility.
The completed project, which included over 6.7 miles of HVAC piping, 24.5 miles of above ground plumbing piping, 19 separate plumbing systems, and nearly 2,500 med gas outlets, received LEED Platinum certification, and was named one of the 2015 Top Ten Green buildings by the American Institute of Architects’ Committee on the Environment.
