South Fuel Transfer Line1

PDX South Fuel Transfer Line

Portland, Oregon

Due to aging facilities, a new 6” aviation fuel line was needed to re-feed the existing South Load Rack. Between the closest new fuel source and the South Load Rack are several active taxiways and Runway 28L, also utilized by the Air National Guard. Extensive coordination and communication, paired with innovative construction techniques, allowed us to provide RON capability of the gate during the tie in activities as well as maintain daily airfield operations throughout the extent of the project.  Some of the construction techniques implemented were horizontal directional boring, onsite prefabrication of spools in excess of 1,000 feet in length, cellular grout pumping over a 3,000-foot run and an aviation fuel hot tap.
