Port of Kalama – Steelscape Paint & Storage Buildings

The Port of Kalama chose to re-configure their Steelscape property to accommodate a future project, and built two warehouses for Steelscape Inc. to move parts of their operation.

The $6.32 million project is south of Steelscape’s existing manufacturing plant. The existing warehouse is on property slated for Northwest Innovation Works, which is proposing to build a methanol plant at the Port of Kalama. The future project will use Steelscape’s current, 37,150-square-foot warehouse once Steelscape has vacated the building.

JH Kelly competitively bid and won award of the building construction.  Acting as general contractor, JH Kelly supplied, erected and built-out the (2) paint storage and coil storage buildings.  These warehouses were complicated to properly adhere to code, and as such, great detail went into the procurement process.  Explosion-proof materials and systems were designed and constructed, and JH Kelly was a proud constructor for these buildings.

Scope included:

  • $4,500,000
  • 8 months duration
  • 70,000 sq. ft. of storage capacity was added
  • (2) Nucor metal buildings
  • Civil and concrete
  • Structural and architectural
  • Mechanical
  • Electrical
