Great Western Malting – Expansion – Pocatello

The growing popularity of craft beers and Idaho’s very reliable supply of quality malting barley are the reasons Australian company, GrainCorp, that owns Pocatello’s Great Western Malting facility is expanding with a $110 million plant upgrade.

GrainCorp is doubling the capacity of its Great Western Malting facility on Kraft Road in Pocatello, Idaho, from 100,000 tons to 220,000 tons.

JH Kelly was awarded the design-build scope with VAA engineers from Minnesota.  Their design expertise led to a powerful construction proposal, resulting in contract award to JHK.
Scope Includes:

  • Design Build
  • 15,000 cubic yards of concrete – civil work
  • 1200 tons of structural steel erection
  • Boilermaker work (18 tanks – stainless steep tanks and germination tanks, kiln vessels)
  • Electrical instrumentation – installation and integration
  • Mechanical Conveyor Installation
  • 55,000 linear feet of process piping – fabricated and installed

  • Millwright work
  • 350,000 direct craft hours
  • $75,000,000
