Cowlitz PUD Substations

JH Kelly has constructed numerous substations for the Cowlitz County PUD in the last seven years. Substations that were complete rebuilds or new construction included:

  • Mint Farm Industrial Substation
  • Olive Way Substation
  • Washington Way Substation
  • Beaver Bay Substation
  • 7th Avenue Substation.

JH Kelly has also completed smaller projects in live substations including work at Olive Way, Castle Rock, and Kalama. In all cases, JH Kelly was the successful low bidder in a public bidding process.

The projects varied from $25,000 to $1,200,000. Scope of work has included:

  • excavation, site work
  • conduit
  • grounding
  • concrete foundations
  • oil containment
  • steel structures
  • security fencing
  • pre-cast concrete wall panels,
  • high voltage line work (using Tice Electric as a subcontractor for the line work)

Even though we are required to bid competitively due to the public nature of Cowlitz PUD, we have been extremely successful in bidding and constructing these projects. Our substation work started with Cowlitz PUD and we have been fortunate to work with them on many projects.
