NWCCC Distinguished Project Award 2015

In conjunction with the Northwest Construction Consumers Council, JH Kelly proudly accepted the NWCCC’s 2015 Distinguished Project Award for Public Project Valued Over $10 million for the OHSU CLSB Skourtes Tower Project.

Located in downtown Portland on the South Waterfront, the building sits on a former scrap steel yard. The 650,000-gross-square-foot CLSB project combined 76,000+ square feet of several different, complex systems and arranged them into (4) areas. Below are a list of the project highlights:

LEED Platinum
Area 1. CLSB – (OHSU / OSU) South Tower
Area 2. Dr. Gray (OHSU) North Tower
Area 3. Skourtes Tower Parking (OHSU)
Area 4. Skourtes Tower (OHSU) North Tower
OSU/OHSU College of Pharmacy program in 18,000+ square feet
Portland State University (PSU) undergraduate biology and chemistry programs in 40,000+ square feet
Vivarium
Microscope Labs, Classrooms and Lecture Halls
Dental Clinics
Over 450 parking spaces and 7,500 square feet of ground-floor retail space

To help tackle one of the largest design-assist projects in our company’s history, JH Kelly utilized (4) fabrication facilities to accommodate the over 10,000 spools needed for CLSB. We assembled our ASME code welding teams at each of the following facilities:

  1. Longview-JH Kelly (large bore carbon steel)
  2. Vancouver South-JH Kelly (skid fabrication)
  3. Vancouver North-JH Kelly (racks & spools)
  4. Clean Room Fabrication Facility-Portland (DI water & high-purity work)

By expanding our fabrication facility space we were able to run multiple welding teams in dual shifts to maintain production. This commitment to modularize and pre-fabricate every component possible set records in our company for man-hour production and overall install time.
Thank you to the NWCCC, JE Dunn, SERA Architects and Interface Engineering for such a successful project.
