JH Kelly Wins National Safety Award

LONGVIEW, WA – Kelly Chairman, Dan Evans, and Safety Director, Marty Rouse, competed for and won the prestigious Willis Safety Award at the Associated General Contractors (AGC) National Convention in Honolulu, HI last week.

AGC presents this award annually to a single firm in select categories demonstrating safety excellence in work site hazard identification and control, management commitment, active employee participation, safety training, and program innovation.  Kelly’s 1st Place Willis Award was earned in the largest employer category consisting of Specialty Contractors that perform over 500,000 hours annually.

JH Kelly was recognized for its ability to achieve safety excellence in dangerous and demanding construction environments such as Paper Mills, Oil Refineries, and Semiconductor Manufacturing Facilities.   The company’s Injury Free Environment (IFE) program was central to their award submission and is a core part of the company’s safety culture.

“This is a tough business and we take safety personally,” said Evans.  “Our goal is zero people hurt and our commitment to this goal is rooted in respect for our employees’ families.  The IFE culture allows our workers to be involved with and shape their environment.  This award demonstrates our desire to ensure that all of our crews go home safe every night and we are proud to receive such an honor.”

The Willis Award falls on the heels of winning the ACG Oregon Columbia Chapter’s Recognition Of Safety Excellence (ROSE) Award in the Specialty Contractor Over 500,000 Hours category.
