Kelly Employee Receives National Safety Award from Red Cross
Jody R. Jordan, an employee of JH Kelly, was recently recognized with a national award from the Red Cross. Vivian Mertz presented Jordan with a medallion and Robert Smith, manager of the Red Cross, read a citation at the company offices north of Ponca City.
The citation reads: On November 30, 2001 Jody R. Jordan, trained in ARC First Aid and CPR, saved the life of Robert Barkness. Mr. Jordan was the Safety Manager on duty at Carbon Fibers in Ponca City, Oklahoma when he observed an employee, Robert Barkness, choke on his lunch. He immediately went to the aid of Mr. Barkness and administered several abdominal thrusts which dislodged the obstruction. Without a doubt, the skills learned in the American Red Cross Health and Safety Services courses used by Jody Jordon contributed to saving the life of Robert Barkness .
For this act, Mr. Jody R. Jordan has been awarded the American Red Cross Lifesaving Award for the Professional Responder. This is one of the highest awards given by the Red Cross to an individual or team of individuals who saves or sustains a life by using skills and knowledge learned in a Red Cross Health and Safety Services course.
The certificate bears the signatures of Marsha Evans, president of the American Red Cross and David McLaughlin, chairman of the American Red Cross.
This action exemplifies the highest degree of concern of one human being for another who is in distress.
