KALAMA, WA – Noveon recently awarded JH Kelly the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for the HCA Production Project. This project provides Kelly another unique opportunity to blend their in-house engineering, design and construction talent with UniField Engineering (UEI) of Vancouver, WA to design and build the facility in close concert with the customer. With an aggressive schedule, the project team will begin design and construction in mid December on a new contained tank farm and process area, with pipe bridges that tie back into the existing plant. There are nine large tanks, a reactor, and a 60ft distillation column to set, along with an equipment skid with five heat exchangers. JH Kelly’s fabrication shop in Longview will support this project’s aggressive schedule by minimizing field manhours and allowing for concurrent effort in two locations. Connecting the vessels and equipment is thousands of lineal feet of pipe and wire which allow for Noveon to produce hexyl cinnamic aldehyde (HCA) from C8 alcohol. Kelly’s electrical engineers and piping design detailers will work closely with UniField Engineering’s civil, structural, process, mechanical and instrumentation & controls engineers and the customer to produce the construction documents from which JH Kelly’s unified civil, structural, mechanical and electrical construction team will build the new facility. This approach improved the scheduled completion date by 45%. The construction effort will peak in excess of 70 trade personnel and consist of carpenters, laborers, pipefitters, electricians, boilermakers, concrete finishers, millwrights, and ironworkers. JH Kelly, a multi-discipline contractor, is a fourth-generation, family owned construction company specializing in process industries and delivering bottom line value to a select group of customers that share our core beliefs of safety, quality, and business integrity.
